It seems that (this taken entirely from this thread, mind you):
Andrew was confused/unaware of the minipet release date;
Wasabi was equally unaware, but took advantage of a friend's kindness;
A fair proportion of the community 'jumped the gun' and started pointing fingers.
Who is to blame? Everyone and no one. A lack of information and communication is the only problem here, hopefully it won't be in the future.
Thanks for this Andrew, let's hope that more memos will be sent out about events and minipets in the future

people will make accusations when they dont know what is going on. Reason I made thread was to try and understand why they got them first and no dev posted in there so we just had ZoS members go in there with poor arguments and nothing got solved. If Andrew Patrick would have went in there early and told the TRUTH there may not have been a problem but instead they didnt and now their reputation is hurt even further.
Now lets stay on topic!

Exactly. Thanks for explaining it so clearly.

Not being sarcastic, but what exactly IS the topic? Andrew Patrick is apologizing for his mistake. And while some are graciously accepting his apology, there are some who are still bashing him and everyone involved. So where do we go from there?
Shouldnt we just accept the apology and move on?

well since a few people are saying it's the community over reacting....and we need to give apologies...
I put this to you Mr. Patrick-
if this was the first year pets were released, I'd let you off easy(;-])...can you explain why, after the third year release, you just now notice that you get your pets a little earlier than others? I mean surely, you got them earlier, say last year and the year before that..right? and if not, why then just this year? (yes I know leap year, but even still you would receive them earlier than others)
is it a coincidence that the same person was trying to sell a "game breaking" item for a vast amount? that was then magically nerfed.

Wrong. Wasabi was fully aware (his sell thread he says clearly: "This is prolly the first in game!"). Not to mention his trying to sell a festival mask (customized to AP, BTW) before this paints a nice picture of his character.

Ah, thanks. I was just collecting 'information' from this thread, not actively going anywhere else, so there are probably a few problems with my assessment.
I did see the hat thread though, that was very weird, and pathetic.

With great power comes great responsibility.....
Not the smartest move and not what was wanted but good to see you made efforts to fix it rapidly. Silly man!
Anyhoo, this is one reason why working for the Co, seeing/getting stuff early can be a disadvantage. A job that can seem enviable can have its own little sharp edges too easy to cut yourself on.

Kudos for the apology and explanation, a bit late though.
However, damage done I'm afraid. Funny how your friend was the first to post a pic of 1 of the design a wep winners. Was the second batch of those wepons.
They might not have been the first to get it, or maybe didn't even get it as a drop themselves.
My point is, the perception is favortism. And that perception has been around for a long time. The mistake with the mini just brought it to a head, for me anyway. The new weapon skin came to my mind after this came to light, and my list goes on and back a long time.
And it doesn't matter if what I think might have happened, did or not. The perception that it "might" have happened is there. Like I said, damage done.

Can't stay mad after that apology
aye, we all make mistakes
was pretty scummy of the person to sell it on after you gave ti to them though.( Selling a gift)
btw is that thing true about wasabi trying to sell a mask customised to SP?
if so you should pick your friends better as you seem to be a walking wallet for him.

its cool man, we're all human. all that matters is that you came from a professional position and told the community whats up. that takes alot to admit to a mistake when you don't want to.

To be honest, I have no problems with the 'favoritism' aspect. If I worked for a company like Anet, I can honestly say that I would do stuff like that for my closest friends. If we implemented new weapon skins, and I knew where to find them, I would tell my friends, "Hey, you may want to check out, oh I don't know, Fissure of Woe when you get a chance - WINK!" Ya know, I would never outright tell them exactly where, but I would definitely give hints, and I would definitely give them stuff like my shiny new minipet that I don't want.
I completely understand what happened, I'm just outraged at how Wasabi handled it (and other things like the festival hat). I think this would be the point that I would not consider him a close friend if I were Andrew (which coincidentally is my middle name). Wasabi needs a timeout, learn a little restraint, and most of all what it means to be TRUSTED.

maybe because AP is a PvP guy who probably doesn't give 2 shits about minis, and probably doesn't remember the exact dates he gets them.
Just guessing...

yeah and i'm just guessing at this as well.
http://www.guildwarsguru.com/forum/s...=2336403&pp=25
-if some people will try and have me believe a certain someone didn't know exactly what he was doing...just lulz.(and it's not AP)
that certain someone has made roughly 2,462 ectos and around 500k. not counting possible braces, so it's a kind estimate.
someone that can hustle that much, isn't a babe in the woods.
I'm sorry Mr. Patrick, but you've been taken for a ride.
@DarkNecrid.
yeah. maybe.

Thanks for clearing this up Andrew, very noble of you. This explains a lot.
I agree with the rest of the thread, in that WhiteWasabi is to blame here. I imagine a few people are going to reconsider associating with him in the future, considering how he acted in this whole incident.

Seams like nothing to get worked up over. So a single mini pet was released into the mainstream population a little ahead of time. This is hardly going to upset the balance or destroy the echonomy. Yes a few people might get a little bit confused if there char was here from the start but didnt get a pet when you did, but its a very minor thing.
Cudos for making an apollogy though.

A woman! According to Deborah Tannen, a specialist on communication and linguistics, women see sharing secrets as a way of bonding and creating friendships. I think this is shown in some movies or series, were girls "rat out" their former best friend to become friends with the popular girls.
